Training Opportunities
Trainees participate in a course in the responsible conduct of research and skills development (written and oral presentations), grantsmanship, reviews and critiques, collaboration, diversity, authorship, attribution of credit, data management and representation, conflict of interest, confidentiality, mentorship, and teaching. Topics that were covered and discussed included strategies for applying for individual NRSAs, peer review of grants, poster presentation practice, and planning meetings for hosting a seminar day. All new trainees are expected to prepare and submit their own grant proposals to the NIH or private foundations.
The trainees in this TPNH have published numerous papers in peer-reviewed journals, including nine as first authors and 12 as middle authors. The most junior trainees who are still in training have submitted at least one first-author paper, which is currently under editorial decision.
